New Delhi: On the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to citizens and called for collective efforts to build a developed India by 2047, the centenary year of Independence.
In her Independence Day eve address, the President said the Tricolour symbolises India’s freedom and paid tribute to freedom fighters who helped the country break free from colonial rule.
She praised students, teachers, scientists, healthcare workers, farmers, labourers, sportspersons, artists, entrepreneurs, civil servants, social workers, police personnel and armed forces for their contributions to nation-building.
The President said the spirit of Antyodaya should guide development so that its benefits reach every citizen. She also highlighted the importance of India’s rich heritage and the ideals of the freedom movement in the journey towards modern development.
Recalling the freedom struggle, she said people from diverse ideological backgrounds united for the common goal of Independence and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Dr B R Ambedkar and other national leaders.
On Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Divas observed on August 14, President Murmu remembered the lakhs of people who lost their lives or were displaced during Partition and honoured their resilience in overcoming the tragedy.
