New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh on Friday, marking a major boost to the state’s aviation infrastructure.
Developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of over ₹5,640 crore, the Greenfield airport has been designed to handle 6 million passengers annually. The modern passenger terminal aims to provide a seamless and efficient travel experience with advanced infrastructure and sustainable features.
The airport is equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Airside 4.0 technologies, an Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC), biometric passenger processing, automated baggage handling systems, and intelligent operational monitoring. These features are expected to improve operational efficiency, passenger convenience, and safety.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the project includes a 5 MW solar power plant, energy-efficient HVAC systems and lighting, rainwater harvesting, smart building management systems, waste management initiatives, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and environmental monitoring measures. The terminal has also been built in accordance with Green Building Standards and is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The airport’s architecture reflects the cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh, drawing inspiration from traditional Chuttilu cottages, the landscapes of the Araku Valley, and the graceful movement of a flying fish.
The new international airport is expected to significantly improve regional air connectivity while boosting tourism, trade, investment, and employment opportunities across Andhra Pradesh.
