Bold Steps Taken to Support Agriculture Sector with Insurance and Fertilizer Subsidies
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to farmers’ welfare by dedicating the first Cabinet meeting of 2025 to empowering the agricultural sector. PM Modi emphasized the pivotal role of farmers in the nation’s growth and announced key measures aimed at securing their prosperity.
Key Cabinet Decisions:
Extension of Crop Insurance Schemes: The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) have been extended until 2025-26, with an increased budget of ₹69,515.71 crore.
These schemes aim to provide comprehensive financial protection to farmers against crop losses due to natural calamities.
Special Subsidy Package for DAP Fertilizer: An additional subsidy of ₹3,500 per tonne on Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) was approved.
This ensures DAP remains affordable at ₹1,350 per 50 kg bag, with the government absorbing a financial burden of ₹3,850 crore.
These initiatives highlight the government’s focus on improving farmers’ financial security, ensuring affordable resources, and building resilience against agricultural risks.
PM Modi’s leadership underscores a clear vision: Empowered farmers, prosperous India. These decisions set the tone for a year dedicated to agricultural growth, sustainability, and farmer well-being.
