Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, describing the move as a historic milestone that ushered in a new era of development and empowerment for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
In a post on social media, the Prime Minister said that the abrogation of the special constitutional provisions on August 5, 2019, marked the beginning of a transformative journey for the two Union Territories.
Modi said that over the past seven years, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have witnessed significant progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports. He also stated that women and marginalised communities, who were deprived of several constitutional rights for decades, have been empowered through the full implementation of the Constitution of India.
The Prime Minister noted that this year’s anniversary holds added significance as India is commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He said Mookerjee’s lifelong commitment to national unity continues to inspire generations and that his vision found historic fulfilment with the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Modi said the government remains dedicated to ensuring that every citizen has opportunities to dream, achieve and contribute to the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
