Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a landmark tree plantation drive under the inspiring campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in New Delhi. He planted a Banyan sapling as part of the ambitious Aravalli Green Wall Project, aimed at reforesting the 700-kilometer-long Aravalli range that stretches across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
The project envisions a continuous green corridor to combat desertification, improve biodiversity, and recharge groundwater across 29 districts in the Indo-Gangetic plains. It includes planting native species, reviving grasslands, and restoring wildlife habitats while removing invasive vegetation.
Chief Ministers of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat participated virtually from their respective states, showcasing a united front for environmental conservation.
In a further push for sustainability, PM Modi also flagged off 200 electric buses in Delhi, promoting clean urban transport and reducing carbon emissions.
Launched in 2024, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ encourages citizens to plant a tree in honor of their mothers, symbolizing love for both motherhood and Mother Earth. The campaign has already seen over 80 crore saplings planted across India, making it one of the largest public environmental movements in the country.
This World Environment Day, India reaffirmed its commitment to ecological balance and sustainable development — with the message that every tree planted is a step towards a greener, healthier planet.
