New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Indian men’s hockey team on retaining the Asian Games gold medal with a commanding victory in the final.
Modi said the team had won back-to-back Asian Games gold medals for the first time and secured its fifth gold medal overall, describing the campaign as an exceptional achievement by the players.
He said the triumph was even more special as, for the first time, both the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams had won gold medals at the same Asian Games.
“Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team on retaining the Asian Games Gold with a commanding victory in the final. Back-to-back Asian Games Golds for the first time and a fifth Gold overall…it’s been an exceptional campaign by our players,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X, quoting Modi.
“This triumph becomes even more special as, for the first time, both our Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams have won Gold at the same Asian Games. It is clear that Indian Hockey stands tall on the Asian stage,” he said.
