PM Modi congratulates Indian athletes on Asian Games medal-winning performances

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian athletes for their medal-winning performances at the 2026 Asian Games, including wrestlers Deepak Punia and Aman Sehrawat, golfer Pranavi Sharath Urs and archer Kumkum Anil Mohod.

Modi congratulated Deepak Punia on winning the bronze medal in the men’s 97kg freestyle wrestling event after a fiercely contested bout. He noted that India had returned to the podium in the event after six decades.

“Deepak Punia has brought home the Bronze after a fiercely contested bout, adding a new chapter to India’s wrestling journey,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X, quoting Modi.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Aman Sehrawat on winning India’s first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling event. He said Sehrawat had displayed great tenacity by progressing from a bronze medal at the previous Asian Games to the top of the podium this time.

Modi also congratulated the Indian men’s cricket team on retaining its Asian Games gold medal. He described the achievement as a joyous occasion for the nation and extended his best wishes to the team members for their future endeavours.

The Prime Minister congratulated Pranavi Sharath Urs on winning India’s first-ever gold medal in women’s individual golf at the Asian Games. He said her superb finish had given the nation a sporting moment to remember and expressed hope that her victory would encourage more young Indians to take up the sport.

Modi also congratulated Kumkum Anil Mohod on becoming the first Indian woman to win the recurve individual gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. He particularly praised her composure during the decisive shoot-off and wished her continued success in her future endeavours.
