OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Discusses AI Future in India and UAE Amid Growing Global Ambitions

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently visited India to explore the country’s plans for building a low-cost artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem. During his visit, Altman met with India’s Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to discuss potential collaborations. Vaishnaw outlined the Indian government’s strategy to develop a robust AI infrastructure, including GPUs, models, and applications, and emphasized that OpenAI is keen to contribute to these efforts.

India, OpenAI’s second-largest market by users, plays a key role in the company’s global strategy. This visit marks Altman’s first trip to India since his 2023 meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they discussed how AI could strengthen India’s growing tech ecosystem.

In addition to his engagements in India, Altman is set to visit Abu Dhabi for fundraising talks with investment group MGX, reflecting OpenAI’s efforts to secure funding as competition from companies like China’s DeepSeek intensifies. This visit to India and the UAE highlights OpenAI’s commitment to expanding its international partnerships and pushing the boundaries of AI technology.
