Evian-les-Bains (France): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday raised concerns over the safety of seafarers during talks with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France.
Modi urged that the protection of seafarers be accorded the highest priority during the implementation of Washington’s peace arrangement with Iran. The issue assumed significance amid growing concern in India following the deaths of three Indian crew members aboard a merchant vessel in recent US military strikes.
The meeting also focused on efforts to strengthen India-US relations, which have witnessed strains over the past year. Both leaders discussed measures to enhance cooperation and address key bilateral issues.
During the talks, Trump described India as a trusted partner and reiterated the United States’ commitment to India’s security, stating that Washington would stand by India in the event of any external threat.
The meeting was held on the margins of the G7 Summit in the French commune of Evian-les-Bains and covered a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
