Kerala Woman Sentenced to Death for Poisoning Boyfriend in ‘Rarest of Rare’ Case

Thiruvananthapuram: In a historic judgment, the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court sentenced 24-year-old Greeshma to death for the calculated and cold-blooded murder of her boyfriend, Sharon Raj. The court found Greeshma guilty of lacing a herbal concoction with pesticide, leading to Sharon’s untimely death in October 2022.

After battling for life in a hospital for 11 days, Sharon passed away on October 25, 2022. The court described the crime as “rarest of the rare,” emphasizing its premeditated nature and rejecting Greeshma’s plea for leniency based on her youth and clean record.

Greeshma’s uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, was sentenced to three years in prison for tampering with evidence in the case.

Key Takeaways from the Court’s Verdict:

  • The court condemned Greeshma’s betrayal of Sharon’s trust, calling her actions a “manipulative and calculated act.”
  • Police were praised for conducting a meticulous investigation and utilizing scientific evidence to build a strong case.
  • Despite Sharon’s reluctance to see Greeshma punished, even on his deathbed, the court ruled that justice demanded the maximum penalty due to the crime’s brutality.

Greeshma was brought to court from Attakulangara Women’s Prison, where she will remain until all legal formalities are complete. Sharon Raj’s grieving family, present at the courtroom, expressed a sense of relief and closure following the verdict.
