Kerala to Proceed with ‘Global City’ Project Despite Centre’s Pullout: Minister Rajeeve

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will move forward with its ambitious ‘Global City’ project even after the Central government withdrew its support, Industries Minister P. Rajeeve confirmed on Monday. The decision underscores the state’s commitment to developing a world-class urban infrastructure hub aimed at boosting investment, employment, and sustainable growth.

Originally, the project had a plan to acquire 500 acres of land with an investment of ₹500 crore. However, following the Centre’s withdrawal, the scale of land acquisition has been reduced to 358 acres. The minister stated that the state government is determined to make the project a reality using its own resources and public-private partnerships.

“The Global City project is integral to Kerala’s future development and industrial strategy. We will not let the lack of Central assistance derail our plans,” Rajeeve said. He added that discussions are already underway with potential investors and developers, and the state hopes to position the Global City as a hub for knowledge economy, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure.

The project is expected to attract industries in IT, biotechnology, green technology, and design, creating thousands of new job opportunities and boosting Kerala’s global competitiveness.
