Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to promote a reading culture among children, the Kerala government will award grace marks to school students who actively participate in reading activities starting from the next academic year.
General Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced the initiative through a Facebook post, stating that one period every week will be dedicated to reading and related activities for students in Classes I to IV. Students from Classes V to XII will take part in newspaper reading sessions and perform assigned follow-up activities.
The minister said the scheme aims to nurture the reading habit from an early age, improve language skills, and encourage critical thinking among students. The marks earned through participation will be added as grace marks in their academic performance.
