Kerala on High Alert as Power Crisis Looms Amid Scorching Summer

Thiruvananthapuram: As summer temperatures continue to soar, Kerala is grappling with a worsening power crisis fueled by surging electricity demand and transformer shortages. The state’s power grid is under immense strain, sparking concerns over frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations in the coming months.

With the mercury rising, households are heavily reliant on air conditioners and cooling appliances, pushing electricity consumption to record highs. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is struggling to match supply with demand, citing limited transmission capacity and a shortage of transformers as key hurdles.

Officials warn that unless immediate steps are taken, the gap between supply and demand could trigger periodic load shedding, particularly during peak hours. The government is racing to optimize power distribution and boost efficiency within the existing grid to minimize disruptions.

To combat the crisis, authorities are urging residents to adopt energy-saving measures, such as limiting the use of high-power appliances during peak hours. Meanwhile, KSEB is accelerating efforts to install new transformers and upgrade grid capacity to prevent widespread outages.

As Kerala enters the most intense phase of summer, power officials are on high alert, working to avert large-scale blackouts. Consumers are advised to use electricity wisely to avoid straining the system further.
