Kerala on High Alert as IMD Forecasts 5 Days of Thunderstorms and Lightning

Kerala is bracing for intense weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five-day alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds from May 4 to 8, 2025. The warning comes amid forecasts of heavy rainfall and wind speeds reaching up to 50 km/h, especially between May 7 and 8. Districts like Kottayam are already witnessing cloudy skies and afternoon thunderstorms, with temperatures soaring to 33°C (91°F). The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised the public to stay indoors during thundercloud activity, avoid open spaces, disconnect electrical appliances, and limit travel, particularly on two-wheelers. Officials emphasize that lightning poses a serious risk to life, livestock, and infrastructure, and urge everyone to stay alert and safe.
