Kerala High Court Orders State to Implement Reservations for Transgender Individuals in Education and Employment Within Six Months

The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to implement reservations for transgender individuals in educational institutions and public employment within six months. This ruling aligns with the Supreme Court’s 2014 judgment in the National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India, which recognized transgender persons as a third gender and mandated affirmative action to integrate them into mainstream society.

The decision comes in response to petitions demanding the enforcement of these reservations, with the court emphasizing the urgency of ensuring equal opportunities for transgender individuals. The directive highlights the need for swift and effective implementation to address the ongoing challenges faced by the transgender community in accessing education and employment.
