Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant legal development, the Kerala High Court has admitted the appeal of Greeshma, who was sentenced to death for the murder of her boyfriend, Sharon Raj. The court has also suspended the three-year prison sentence of her maternal uncle, Nirmalakumaran Nair, convicted for destroying evidence in the case.
Greeshma’s appeal challenges the trial court’s verdict, citing alleged errors in evidence assessment and legal interpretation. She also questions the jurisdiction of the Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Court, arguing that the crime took place under Tamil Nadu’s Palukal police station limits.
A Division Bench comprising Justice P.B. Suresh Kumar and Justice Jobin Sebastian has issued a notice to the Kerala government, seeking its response to the appeals.
Greeshma was convicted in January 2025 by the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court for poisoning 23-year-old Sharon Raj in October 2022. Her uncle was found guilty of tampering with evidence.
The High Court’s decision to review the case and suspend Nirmalakumaran Nair’s sentence marks a crucial turn in the high-profile murder trial.
