Kerala CM Hails Muzhappilangad Beach Project as Game-Changer for State’s Tourism

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has described the Muzhappilangad Beach Development Project as a landmark initiative set to redefine the state’s tourism landscape. As part of the ambitious Dharmadam-Muzhappilangad Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan, the project aims to transform Asia’s longest drive-in beach in Kannur into a globally renowned destination.

With a hefty ₹233.71 crore investment from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), the beach is undergoing major upgrades, including a scenic four-kilometer-long walkway, children’s play areas, eco-friendly kiosks, landscaped zones, and modern public facilities—all while preserving the beach’s natural charm.

One of the project’s centerpieces is a nearly completed three-star hotel by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), expected to significantly improve accommodation options for tourists.

Highlighting the initiative as part of Kerala’s broader plan to develop 25 major tourism hubs, CM Vijayan reiterated the importance of leveraging the state’s vast 580-kilometer coastline. With Muzhappilangad now firmly on the tourism map, Kerala anticipates a surge in domestic and international visitors, stronger local economies, and enhanced global visibility as a top-tier beach tourism hotspot.
