Thiruvananthapuram: With a low-pressure system brewing over the Arabian Sea, Kerala is on high alert as the state braces for intense rainfall over the next five days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for multiple northern districts, warning of extremely heavy rain from Saturday through Monday. Kannur and Kasaragod are under red alert on Saturday, with Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad joining the list on Sunday. By Monday, Pathanamthitta and Idukki will also come under the red alert zone.
In anticipation of widespread heavy rainfall, orange alerts have been issued across central and northern districts including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Kottayam. Today alone, orange alerts are active in six districts, while moderate rain has triggered yellow alerts in the southern regions such as Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.
The developing weather system is expected to intensify and move northward, paving the way for the southwest monsoon to officially hit Kerala within the next 48 hours. Authorities urge the public to stay alert, as every district in the state remains under some form of rain warning through Tuesday. Residents are advised to follow safety instructions and prepare for potential disruptions as the monsoon begins its powerful advance.
