Kerala Braces for Heavy Rain: Orange Alert in Three Districts, Yellow Alert in Seven

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience another spell of intense monsoon showers, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the state today and tomorrow.

An Orange Alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, indicating the potential for very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert is in place for Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad, where isolated heavy showers (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) are expected.

For Tuesday, the IMD has extended the Yellow Alert to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam as the rain belt is likely to move southward.

Alongside the rainfall warnings, the IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea off the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts till Tuesday, and the Karnataka coast till Thursday, due to strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h, and rough sea conditions.

Authorities have urged residents in high‐risk areas to remain alert and follow safety guidelines as Kerala continues to face intense monsoon activity.
