The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) is considering a ₹5 per liter hike in milk prices after the Sankranti festival, concluding on January 15. KMF Chairman Bheema Naik confirmed that a final decision will be made following discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The proposed hike comes in response to dairy farmers’ demands for better compensation amid rising production costs. Just two months ago, KMF had raised milk prices by ₹2 per liter while offering an additional 50 ml per packet. However, with production stabilizing, KMF plans to revert to the original volume and pricing structure.
In a bid to diversify its offerings, KMF’s Nandini brand has ventured into the ready-to-cook market by launching whey protein-based idli and dosa batter in Bengaluru. Priced at ₹40 for 450 grams and ₹80 for 900 grams, the product aims to compete with established private brands in this segment.
Consumers in Karnataka are advised to brace for a possible price hike, with the final decision hinging on the outcome of KMF’s meeting with the Chief Minister.
