Mumbai: The celebrations continue for India’s women’s cricket team after their historic ICC ODI World Cup triumph — and now, so do the rewards. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a monumental ₹51 crore cash prize for the champions, as confirmed by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia.
Adding to this, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded the team ₹39.78 crore (US$4.48 million) — the highest-ever prize money in the history of women’s cricket. Notably, this figure even surpasses the ₹35.51 crore given to the men’s World Cup-winning team earlier.
With both the BCCI and ICC prizes combined, the triumphant Indian squad will receive a whopping ₹123 crore — a record-breaking total that marks a 297% increase from the previous edition in 2022. The surge comes as part of the ICC’s groundbreaking decision to ensure equal prize money for men’s and women’s tournaments.
Runners-up South Africa will take home ₹19.88 crore, while semifinalists Australia and England will each pocket ₹9.94 crore.
This moment is particularly special for Indian women’s cricket — a journey that began with heartbreak in 2017, when India narrowly lost to England by 9 runs. Back then, the BCCI had announced ₹50 lakh each for players and staff. Today, eight years later, the same board’s ₹51 crore reward stands as a powerful testament to how far women’s cricket in India has risen — from near misses to world-beating champions.
