India, Norway Elevate Ties to Green Strategic Partnership After Modi-Store Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Oslo, with the two countries deciding to elevate their relationship to a Green Strategic Partnership.

In a special gesture, Prime Minister Jonas Store personally received Modi at the Oslo airport on his arrival in Norway.

During the talks, the leaders reviewed the full range of bilateral ties, including trade and investment, climate action, energy transition, blue economy, higher education, Arctic cooperation, space, research and talent mobility.

Both leaders agreed that there is significant scope to expand economic cooperation and set a target of doubling bilateral trade by 2030. Modi welcomed increased investments by Norwegian companies in India and encouraged stronger business partnerships under the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as green shipping, marine ecosystem protection, artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, fisheries, aquaculture and infrastructure development.

Prime Minister Modi invited Norway to participate in the Bharat Innovates 2026 event to be held in France and proposed the creation of a Start-up Innovation Hub and Green Innovation Hackathon between the two nations.

The leaders also stressed greater collaboration in renewable energy and advanced technologies including offshore wind energy and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

On global issues, both leaders reiterated support for reforms in international institutions. Prime Minister Store also reaffirmed Norway’s support for India’s permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council.

India and Norway strongly condemned terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, and called for coordinated global action against the threat.

Prime Minister Modi thanked the Norwegian government and people for the warm welcome and invited Jonas Store to visit India.
