India Cracks Down After Pahalgam Attack: Pakistani Nationals to Be Identified and Deported

In a sweeping national security move following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives including 25 Indian tourists, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed all state governments to identify and expel Pakistani nationals currently residing in India. The directive comes as part of India’s intensified effort to combat cross-border terrorism and prevent further threats.

The April 22 attack, executed by militants linked to The Resistance Front (TRF)—an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba—has been termed the deadliest on civilians in India since the 2019 Pulwama tragedy. Tourists in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, were ambushed in broad daylight by gunmen in military attire, sparking national outrage and prompting a series of strong countermeasures from New Delhi.

In response, India has suspended all visa services for Pakistani nationals, downgraded diplomatic relations by expelling Pakistani diplomats, and recalled its own envoys. Additionally, the landmark Indus Waters Treaty has been put on hold, and bilateral trade ties have been frozen.

These actions reflect India’s uncompromising stance on terrorism and border security. While the international community has expressed concern over rising tensions between the two nations, India has made it clear that protecting its citizens remains the top priority.
