Himanta Biswa Sarma Appointed Assam Chief Minister; Swearing-In on May 12

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of the state, clearing the way for the NDA government’s third consecutive term in Assam.

Sarma was unanimously elected leader of the BJP-led NDA legislature party before meeting the Governor at Lok Bhavan along with alliance leaders to formally stake claim to form the government.

A notification issued by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota stated that the Governor appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 12.
