High Court directs his children and Government  to file  counter  affidavits

Kochi: The  High Court  directed  on Oct 03  Lawrence’s  two children and Government   to  file  counter  affidavits  in connection  with donating  his  body  for  medical  research.
               
                CPI(M) leader  and noted trade union leader  M M Lawrence  passed away  on Sept 21   at the  age of  95.

Following the dispute  between his    children  over whether  it  would be donated  to medical college  or  buried  according to Christian’s rites, the   High Court directed  to  preserve the  body  under the custody  of the  Principal   ,Government Medical College, Ernakulam.  Of  his three children, two  wanted to donate  the  body  for medical research and one   daughter  insisted  on burying it in  the church.   Thus  body  went  to the custody  of the Principal of the Government Medical College here.
 
  The  court  was considering the  petition filed his  daughter  Asha   Lawrence, challenging the  decision  of  the hospital committee to hand over  the  body  for medical research  an pleading  for  release of the  body  for burying it  according  to Christian rites in the church.

Justice  V G Arun also gave  one  more  week’s time  to  keep the body under the custody of  the Principal of the Government Medical college here.
