Health Department Warns of Amoebic Brain Infection Risk Amid Rising Summer Heat

The Health Department has issued a warning about the increased risk of amoebic brain infection during the ongoing summer season and has released a set of precautionary guidelines for the public.

According to the advisory, people are strictly advised to avoid bathing in or washing their face with contaminated or untreated water. Authorities have also directed concerned departments to regularly monitor the quality of water in public places and take necessary preventive measures.

The department stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness of available water sources. Wells and water tanks should be chlorinated as per the guidance of health officials, and swimming pools must also be properly disinfected.

People with low immunity have been advised to use only clean water for bathing and for cleaning wounds. The department also urged the public to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear.

Common symptoms of the infection include high fever, sudden onset of illness, vomiting, neck pain, loss of consciousness, and sensitivity to light. Officials cautioned against self-medication, warning that delays in proper treatment can be dangerous.
