Kochi: The Kerala High Court has dismissed a petition seeking a CBI investigation into the death of ADM Naveen Babu, stating that personal feelings and suspicions cannot be the basis for handing over a case to the central agency.
The plea was filed by Naveen Babu’s wife, Manjusha, after a single bench rejected the request for a CBI probe. She approached the division bench, alleging that there were mysteries surrounding his death and expressing doubts over the state police investigation. The family also pointed out that one of the accused, P P Divya, is a CPM leader, raising concerns about a fair probe.
The state government, however, defended the police investigation, stating that Naveen Babu died by suicide following mental distress caused by an alleged humiliating farewell meeting. The court observed that there was no substantial evidence to justify transferring the case to the CBI and upheld the single bench’s decision.
Expressing disappointment, Manjusha said she would consult legal experts before deciding on the next course of action.
