New Delhi: The Centre has set a foodgrain production target of 373.93 million tonnes for the 2026-27 crop year, slightly below the record production achieved in the previous year amid concerns over possible El Niño-related weather conditions.
The target is 2.63 million tonnes lower than the actual foodgrain output of 376.56 million tonnes recorded in 2025-26. However, it remains above the 362 million tonne target fixed for 2025-26.
For the 2026-27 agricultural year, the government has set a production target of 196.21 million tonnes for the kharif season and 177.72 million tonnes for the rabi season.
The lower target reflects the government’s cautious assessment of weather-related risks that could affect agricultural output during the year.
