New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday reviewed the country’s preparedness for the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu chaired a meeting with officials and key stakeholders to assess progress on the implementation of SAF and discuss measures to accelerate its adoption.
According to an official statement, the meeting also reviewed India’s preparedness to comply with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), the global carbon emission reduction framework established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
During the review, the minister said the draft Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) policy is in its final stages. He added that inter-ministerial consultations and discussions with industry stakeholders are currently underway to finalise the policy.
The government is working to promote cleaner aviation fuels as part of its broader strategy to reduce the aviation sector’s carbon footprint and align with international climate commitments.
