Four students were killed after being struck by lightning at Mankada in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Tuesday evening. The deceased were identified as Fahad, Siyad, Rahees and Wahas.
The incident occurred around 5 pm at the Panthallur View Point in Vellila near Mankada, where a group of students had gathered. According to reports, the students were sitting on a rock enjoying the weather when lightning struck the area.
A total of seven people were reportedly affected in the incident. Three injured students were shifted to the Government Medical College Manjeri for treatment, and the condition of two of them is said to be critical.
Heavy rain lashed several parts of Malappuram district on Tuesday evening. Weather authorities had earlier issued warnings about the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds in the state.
