Four Census officials, including two women, were allegedly assaulted while carrying out survey work in Dhenkanal district of Odisha on Wednesday, police said.
The incident took place in the Mahimanagar area under the Kamakshyanagar Notified Area Council (NAC) during the morning hours. According to officials, the team—comprising three enumerators and one supervisor—had visited the locality as part of the ongoing Census exercise that began on April 16.
Authorities said the team was attacked by three individuals, identified as a man and his two sons. All four staff members sustained injuries in the incident.
Kamakshyanagar sub-collector Dinamani Nayak confirmed the assault and said an investigation is underway. “Our four Census staff members were injured in the attack. Police are probing the incident, and strict action will be taken against the attackers,” he said.
Police have initiated a probe to determine the circumstances leading to the assault and have assured appropriate legal action against those involved.
