In the aftermath of the fireworks explosion at Mundathikode in Thrissur, organisers of the Kadamattom church festival have decided to cancel the fireworks display.
The decision was taken following a directive from the head of the Malankara Orthodox Church. Instead of conducting fireworks, the organisers have chosen to undertake a charitable initiative by constructing a “Sneha Bhavan” (home for the needy).
The decision was jointly made by the parish managing committee and the festival committee. The church festival is scheduled to be held on May 6 and 7.
Earlier, the fireworks display planned for the St. George Orthodox Church festival in Puthuppally was also cancelled in view of the same incident, reflecting a wider shift towards safety and restraint after the tragedy.
