Deepak Suicide Case: Bail Hearing Deferred Again, Shimjitha Remains in Custody

The bail plea of Shimjitha, the accused in the suicide case of Govindapuram native Deepak, was once again deferred by the Kozhikode District Sessions Court on Monday. The court will now consider the application on Tuesday, as the judge who heard arguments on the plea was on leave. With repeated adjournments, the accused will continue to remain in judicial custody.

Shimjitha was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide following a complaint lodged by Deepak’s family. The family alleges that Deepak took his own life after a video posted by the accused on Instagram, containing allegations of sexual harassment during a bus journey in Payyannur, went viral. The video reportedly reached 2.3 million views within a single day, triggering widespread public attention.

Police investigations, however, have so far not yielded conclusive evidence to support the allegations. CCTV footage from the bus was examined but did not reveal any abnormal incident, and bus staff stated that no complaints of harassment were reported during the journey. The case continues to draw public attention as the court proceedings move forward.
