Kalpatta (Wayanda) Aug 03 (IVC) With the recovery of 18 more bodies of the victims of the devastating land slides at Mundakkai and Chooralmal in the Wayanad District on July 30 dawn, the number of deceased persons in the mishap touched to 357 , the official sources said.
Of the 18 bodies, 16 were recovered from the Chaliyar river and two bodies were from Chooralmala, the sources added.
Over two hundred persons were yet to be found out from the places of landslide. Though today’s search at Kundukkai and Chooralmala was stopped at 17hours, . search and rescue operation were started again following bad smell emanated from Punchirimattam in the area under a pond covered by the debris of the landslides. It was also stopped at 1915 hours as nothing was found from the pond though dredger and sniffer dogs were put into search.
It is understood that sever crores of rupees assistance were offered by industrialists, politicians, co-operative service banks, philanthropists and large-hearted persons from various walks of life for the rehabilitation of the victims of landslides , the sources added that offer of at least about 600 dwelling houses for the victims of landslides had also been received so far.
