Kalpatta, (Wayand) July 30 (IVC) The number of persons in the land slides at Wayanad has gone up to 125 till 1015 hours today, the Official sources said.
Out of 106 bodies recovered , 34 has been identified and 18 bodies have been Released to their relatives, the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told newsmen.
Besides, 128 persons have suffered injuries by the fury of landslides and they were hospitalized, he added. Nine were undergoing treatment in the intensive care units of the hospital.
The first landslide occurred at Mundakkaid at 02.00 hours and 04.10 hours this dawn at Chooralmala . The Mundakkai town was completed erased by the fury of the landslide and all the dwelling houses were fallen to the ground and it was difficult to imagine that there were dwelling houses in the area of landslides. The injured had been evacuated from the spot of landslide by an Air Force helicopter and they were shifted to Sultanbattery, the official sources said.
All the service forces like Army, Airforce and Navy and NDRF personnel had been deployed for the rescue operations. The landing of Air Force’s helicopter at the landslide affected area was a herculean task .
The Chief Minister said all possible efforts were being made to save the affected persons and hospitalize them for treatment if needed. The landslides were reported in the Kozhikode, Kannur, Iddukki and Thrissur districts following heavy rains . Train services were also affected adversely following heavy rains.
The Chief Minister said that the number of persons trapped under the debris of the land slides could not be ascertained yet and still there are persons trapped under the debris, he said adding that the rescue operations were progressing well despite odds. Malappuram, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta , Kannur and Kasargod had been declared holiday for tomorrow.
