CM Yogi Adityanath Defends Sangam’s Purity, Calls Stampede Politics ‘Unfortunate’

Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly refuted allegations of water contamination at the Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Addressing the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, he dismissed claims of faecal bacteria in the river as “propaganda” meant to malign the religious event. Adityanath asserted that the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers is not just safe for bathing but also fit for drinking.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also reacted to criticism over the recent stampede at the festival, which led to at least 30 fatalities. Opposition leaders have blamed the state government’s mismanagement, but Adityanath condemned the politicization of the tragedy as “unfortunate”. He accused Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders of spreading misinformation to defame the event and undermine Sanatan Dharma.

Adityanath emphasized that authorities acted swiftly to control the situation and provide relief to victims’ families. He urged political figures to respect the religious and cultural significance of the Maha Kumbh Mela and refrain from using such tragedies for political gains.
