Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday launched a cleanliness drive at a Hooghly river ghat in the Bagbazar area of north Kolkata and stressed the need for effective implementation of the Namami Gange programme.
The initiative began with Suvendhu Adhikari offering prayers at a temple situated at the historic Mayer Ghat, a site associated with Sarada Devi. He later participated in the cleanliness campaign by sweeping the ghat premises.
BJP leaders Agnimitra Paul and Tapas Roy, along with senior officials of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, were present at the event.
Suvendhu Adhikari said sustained efforts would be undertaken to ensure the successful implementation of the Namami Gange initiative and to promote cleanliness along the riverfront.
