Mumbai: The Centre has constituted a team to assess the drought situation in Maharashtra, where 265 of the state’s 358 talukas have been declared drought-affected, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne said.
The team will visit the affected areas in coordination with the state government and assess the severity of the situation before recommending relief and rehabilitation measures.
The team will submit its report to the Centre following the assessment, Bharne said in a statement.
Nearly 80 per cent of the state is facing drought conditions, with crops suffering extensive damage. The visit is expected to expedite central assistance to affected farmers, the statement said.
