Kochi: Prominent businessman and social media personality Boby Chemmanur has been taken into custody by the Kochi police following a complaint from actress Honey Rose. The actress accused Chemmanur of making obscene comments and sexual innuendos, leading to the registration of a police case under the IT Act and related sections.
Chemmanur had initially denied the allegations, stating that his remarks were intended as light-hearted banter and not meant to cause harm. However, following a formal investigation, a special team led by Ernakulam Central ACP Jayakumar was formed to look into the matter. The police are also investigating social media posts linked to the case, with several individuals reportedly posting offensive content.
In a significant legal development, the Kerala High Court upheld the notion that comments on a woman’s body constitute sexual harassment. The court dismissed a petition seeking to quash criminal proceedings against Chemmanur, emphasizing that such behavior infringes upon the dignity of women and falls under harassment laws.
As the investigation continues, the police are considering additional charges, underlining the importance of safeguarding women’s dignity in public spaces. This case serves as a stern reminder of the legal consequences of any form of harassment.
