Lucknow: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Tuesday described Booth Level Officers (BLOs) as the “foundational pillar” of the world’s largest democracy during an interaction with BLOs from Uttar Pradesh.
More than 500 BLOs and 30 BLO Supervisors from across the state participated in the interaction. Kumar said BLOs are the Election Commission’s first interface with citizens and play a key role in ensuring trust and transparency in the electoral process.
He said preparation of electoral rolls and conduct of elections are carried out strictly in accordance with the Constitution, law and instructions issued by the Election Commission of India.
Kumar highlighted the contribution of UP’s BLOs in preparing electoral rolls. Following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) completed in April, more than 13.39 crore electors were included in the state’s final electoral roll. The exercise was carried out by around 1.77 lakh BLOs, with concurrent auditing by over 5.82 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by recognised political parties.
The BLOs also held a question-and-answer session with the CEC, raising concerns and seeking clarifications on electoral processes.
