Thiruvananthapuram: Advocate Bailin Das, accused of assaulting junior lawyer J.V. Shyamili at his Vanchiyoor office, has been granted bail by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on the fourth day of his judicial custody.
In court, the defense argued that Das himself sustained injuries during the confrontation — including an eye injury and an ear infection allegedly caused by broken spectacles — and claimed the incident was triggered by provocation from the complainant. Medical evidence supporting these claims was submitted to the court.
The defense maintained that the altercation was a spontaneous emotional outburst, disputing the charge of outraging the modesty of a woman, which they argued was not applicable in this context.
The alleged incident took place last Tuesday when 26-year-old Shyamili, a native of Parassala, reportedly suffered facial injuries after being assaulted at Das’s office.
After the incident, Bailin Das went into hiding but was apprehended last Thursday evening from Stationkadavu, Thumba, by a joint team of the Shanghumugham Assistant Commissioner’s squad and Thumba Police.
