Idukki: Kerala Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob on Monday said authorities would examine whether soil excavation carried out as part of National Highway development works contributed to landslides along the road to Munnar and other parts of Idukki district.
The minister made the statement while speaking to reporters after visiting a hospital where a woman injured in a mudslide at Vattavada is undergoing treatment.
Jacob said the circumstances surrounding the landslides would be examined, including whether excavation and other activities associated with National Highway works had any role in triggering the incidents.
On Sunday, Balakrishnan and his sister Chinnu, residents of Kottakamboor near Vattavada, were killed after a mudslide flattened a shed where they had taken shelter from heavy rain.
