Assam to Set Up Government Drug Rehabilitation Centres in Every District: CM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced plans to establish government-run drug rehabilitation centres in every district of the state to help people overcome addiction and return to normal life.

Speaking at a press conference in Jorhat after a two-day conference of district commissioners, Sarma said the government had received several complaints against private de-addiction centres, where drug consumption was reportedly taking place.

The chief minister said private rehabilitation centres would be subjected to strict scrutiny and indicated that the establishment of government facilities in every district would reduce the need for private rehabilitation centres.
