Alarming Health Alert: 45% of Kerala’s Population at Risk of Lifestyle Diseases

Thiruvananthapuram: A government survey has raised serious concerns, revealing that nearly half of Kerala’s population (45%) is at risk of lifestyle diseases, signaling a growing public health crisis. The survey, conducted as part of the ‘Aardram’ health mission, was carried out in two phases by the state health department.

The screening programme focused on detecting hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and other lifestyle-related ailments, which have surged due to sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary habits, and lack of physical activity.

Health officials have stressed the urgent need for proactive intervention, including large-scale awareness campaigns, enhanced public healthcare infrastructure, and lifestyle modification programs. The government is expected to roll out new policies to curb the rising prevalence of lifestyle diseases and encourage preventive healthcare measures to safeguard the state’s well-being.
