Chennai: The AIADMK took the lead in Dharapuram after three rounds of counting in the October 6 bypolls in Tamil Nadu, while the ruling TVK maintained its lead in Madurantakam. In neighbouring Puducherry, the ruling AINRC was ahead of Congress and DMK candidates.
Although early rounds of EVM counting showed TVK leading in both reserved constituencies in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK candidate K Bhanumathi secured 8,244 votes in Dharapuram after two rounds, pushing TVK candidate P Sathyabama to second place with 7,434 votes. DMK candidate S Sunganya was trailing with 6,158 votes, according to the latest Election Commission update.
In Madurantakam, the AIADMK overtook the DMK to move into second place as counting progressed.
