CM Pinarayi Vijayan Meets Amit Shah, Seeks More Central Aid for Wayanad Reconstruction

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday, urging the Centre to provide additional financial assistance for Wayanad’s relief and reconstruction following the recent devastation in the region.

According to sources, the discussion lasted for about 30 minutes and centred on Kerala’s demand for ₹2,000 crore in central support. So far, the state has received ₹206.56 crore, prompting the Chief Minister to personally push for more aid to speed up rehabilitation efforts.

CM, who did not comment to the media after the meeting, arrived in Delhi at a politically charged time — amid the ongoing Sabarimala gold plating controversy that has stirred heated debates back home.

Later, the Chief Minister also met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, with talks reportedly focusing on the proposed AIIMS project in Kerala and other healthcare initiatives.

CM is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday at 10 a.m., where CM is expected to renew Kerala’s plea for enhanced central support. CM has also requested meetings with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss infrastructure and national highway development projects in the state.

Kerala Ministers K.N. Balagopal and P.A. Mohammed Riyas are accompanying the Chief Minister during his Delhi visit, signaling a coordinated push for greater central collaboration on key development fronts.
