Indian Railways has announced a new rule for train ticket booking through the IRCTC app. Starting October 1, the first 15 minutes of ticket reservation will be exclusively available to users who have linked their Aadhaar details with their IRCTC accounts.
This move is aimed at ensuring fair ticket availability for general passengers and preventing fraudulent bookings, especially during the festive season when tickets sell out within minutes.
Currently, such Aadhaar-based restrictions are in place only for Tatkal bookings, but the new rule will extend the facility to all reservations.
However, Indian Railways clarified that there will be no change in the booking schedule at computerized PRS counters for general reserved tickets. Also, the existing 10-minute restriction for authorized railway ticketing agents on the first day of booking will remain unchanged.
