Kochi: Popular rapper Vedan, legally known as Hirandas Murali, has been arrested in a rape case following a complaint by a young doctor who accused him of sexually exploiting her under the guise of marriage. The arrest came after two consecutive days of intense interrogation at the Thrikkakara police station.
The Kerala High Court had earlier granted Vedan anticipatory bail, and he is expected to be released after completing a mandatory medical examination.
According to the complaint, Vedan allegedly assaulted the woman on multiple occasions between August 2021 and March 2023 at several locations including Kozhikode and Kochi, before refusing to marry her. She also accused him of cheating her of ₹31,000, collected under the pretext of releasing a song.
Police confirmed that Vedan appeared for questioning at 10 a.m. yesterday, leaving only by 4:15 p.m., and was summoned again today, after which his arrest was formally recorded.
