New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a crucial day-long visit to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on Monday to assess the devastation caused by floods and landslides. Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment, he declared that the “Government of India stands shoulder-to-shoulder with those affected in this tragic hour.”
In Himachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey of severely affected districts including Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba. Later, chairing a high-level review meeting in Kangra, he announced a relief package of ₹1,500 crore for the state, along with ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
Modi then travelled to Punjab, where floods have devastated hundreds of villages and displaced thousands. He is scheduled to survey the worst-hit areas in Gurdaspur and hold direct interactions with survivors, officials, and rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra.
The visit underscores a hands-on approach by the Centre, offering financial lifelines to affected states and prioritising rapid relief and rehabilitation. It also reflects a people-first response, with the Prime Minister directly engaging with communities and ground-level rescue operations.
