Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a cyclonic circulation currently located over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha–West Bengal coast is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 48 hours.
Under its influence, Kerala is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next five days, with isolated heavy showers forecast between Tuesday and Friday.
As a precaution, the IMD has issued a yellow alert in the following districts:
- Tuesday: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
- Wednesday: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
- Thursday: Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
- Friday: Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
The IMD defines heavy rainfall as precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
